What is Reiki?
The Usui System of Reiki Healing is an ancient healing technique that uses Universal life force energy to balance the subtle energies within our bodies and to heal. Reiki Practitioners act as a conduit or channel through which Reiki energy travels. The intended result of practicing Reiki is a balanced physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual being.
Reiki is a complementary medical art that works well alone as well as in concert with other treatments. Healing is often the result of gentle shifts in awareness, release of emotional patterns, achievement of new understanding, and daily practice. Reiki is not a replacement for traditional medical treatment.
Is Reiki a religion?
No, Reiki is not a religion. Reiki is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. It involves the transfer of universal life energy through the hands of a practitioner to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
While Reiki can have spiritual aspects—such as fostering inner peace, mindfulness, and connection—it does not require belief in any specific doctrine, deity, or religious practice. People of all faiths (or none at all) can learn and benefit from Reiki. It’s often described as a complementary therapy that works alongside conventional medicine and personal belief systems, without replacing them.
